Large earthquake close to the Bardarbunga caldera

An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 was detected about 5,5 km northeast of Bardarbunga caldera just before 7 AM this morning. Since 7 PM yesterday only about ten earthquakes were recorded and only three since midnight, the largest with magnitude 4.5 at the northern rim of the caldera at 9:43 PM. Two other earthquakes with magnitude over 3 occurred there at 23:44 and 01:57.

Since midnight about 35 earthquakes have been recorded in the northern part of the dyke, a similar  amount as the day before. From midnight only 2 earthquakes were recorded by Herdubreid/Herdubreidartogl, all below magnitude 2.
