Drug busts 2. nóvember 2006 12:24 45 kilos of amphetamine have been confiscated this year. Authorities in Iceland confiscated 80 kilos of drugs in the first nine months of the year. The street value of the drugs confiscated is around 355 to 480 million kronur. The police and customs have confiscated more amphetamine this year than last three years combined. From January to September 45 kilos of the substance was confiscated. Congresswoman Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir requested this information from The Ministry of Justice. In the reply from Ministry of Justice says that according to police information the street value of one gram of amphetamine is 5-7.000 kronur. Combined street value of the 45 kilos is therefore between 225 and 315 million kronur. About five kilos of cocaine was confiscated the first nine months of the year compared to one kilo last year. The street value of the five kilos is 70 to 90 million kronur; the gram goes for 13 - 17.000 kronur. About 30 kilos of hashish was taken and its street value is 50 to 70 million kronur. About two kilos of marijuana was confiscated and the value is around four million kronur. Jóhanna also requested information on funding for Customs and the Police Narcotics department. According to the Ministry of Justice 5,6 billion kronur went to the issue, as well as 177 million kronur to preventive work and surveillance.
