Director Baltasar Kormákur won big with his Ibsen play Pétur Gautur gathering five awards and twelve nominations. Pétur Gautur won play of the year, best actress, best supporting actress, best supporting actor, and best director. The young comic illustrator Hugleikur Dagsson won playwright of the year to his own surprise. In recent years Icelandic theatre has been receiving more attention and acclaim abroad and more theatre groups plan on exporting their plays. Baltasar Kormákur was ecstatic about winning big at the Griman and how well Petur Gautur had been received by the audience. He said he hoped this would help him bring his play to other countries. Recently an article was published in the British newspaper Guardian that claimed Icelandic theatre was at the forefront of what takes place in the world of theatre.
